ERIN SIENA JOBS

Erin Siena Jobs began working in ceramics in November 2019 and quickly fell in ambitious love with the craft. Her teacher, Scott Jennings, has been instructing her since the beginning, providing guidance as an exceptional teacher, artist, and friend.

She uses mid-range, high-fire clays and glazes to create pieces that reflect her emotional state in the moments of making. Both the forming and glazing processes serve as opportunities to channel and express emotion. Within the same piece, the form and the glaze may or may not share the same emotional resonance. The resulting harmony or dissonance can be striking—like a mouse in a fitted suit or a sunset over the ocean.

For much of her work, she prefers hand-building, drawn to the way the clay can seemingly express itself. She seeks to encourage the clay to do unexpected things and to recognize those moments of surprise. Often, she does not plan a piece before beginning, as some of her best work emerges from a present, meditative state. In that flow, emotions become clear during the process or even after the work is complete. Erin maintains a flexible balance between technical planning and spontaneity, allowing creativity to unfold organically.

“I dream about ceramics. Clay has become one of my languages. In glazing, everything is an experiment. There is information in the way each glaze interacts with the clay body. When you see and hold these pieces, I hope some of them will resonate with you” ’Erin Siena Jobs
