JENNIFER MAHARRY

Nature photographer Jennifer MaHarry has been within arm’s reach of wild mustangs, 600-pound bears, mountain lions, wild orcas, and a wide variety of other wild creatures. Getting up-close-and-personal with the natural world is one of the hallmarks of her work, but it’s her finely honed design skills that take it to the next level.

Having spent 30 years in Los Angeles as a creative director, Jennifer art-directed photoshoots with some of the best fashion photographers in the world. In motion picture advertising, Jennifer learned to pare things down in order to communicate with the viewer directly.

Bringing this sensibility into her nature photography, Jennifer shoots primarily in high contrast black and white, utilizing plenty of negative space to reduce distraction, revealing each animal’s unique personality and exquisite form. Her aim is to give the viewer the same sense of immediacy she experienced when taking the photo.

“I try to make artwork that is intriguing and arresting, to bring the beauty of the natural world inside people’s spaces,” Jennifer says. “Keeping people connected to nature helps inspire preservation at this critical time.”
Based in Woodstock, NY, Jennifer now lives on 8 forested acres with her husband, their nine year old son, two cats, along with owls, fox, deer, and myriad other creatures who visit them daily.
